Abstract

There focus this research the class struggle appears as a way for the lower class to break the capitalism and create the new system where there is no class social in the society. Marxist divided people into two classes, the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The disparity makes a conflict between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat because of the injustice. Therefore the proletariats struggle against the bourgeoisie to reach the justice. Elysium movie by Neil Blomkamp is an science-fiction movie. The movie tells about the condition of the world in the 22nd century. The earth is damaged and over polluted so that the wealthiest people create a place at the space called Elysium. However, Elysium causes the separation of class in society. The statements of problem can be formulated as; 1) how the image of upper class and lower class, 2) how the upper class oppress the lower class, 3) how the lower class struggle to achieve the justice against the upper class. The Karl Marx‟s theory is used to analyze the social conflict about the class struggle. The conflict happens because the proletariat wants to be served justice with the bourgeoisie. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The data have been collected from the scene in Elysium movie, the researcher conducted the identification, determination, analysis and conclusions to data research. The results of this analyzing all data that have been found such as the image of social class between the upper class and the lower class , the oppression of lower class in the movie, and the struggle of lower class, the result this research is the struggle of lower class in the movie is the way of lower class to get their justice. The researcher suggests the next researcher who is interested to analyze Elysium movie as an object to use post-colonial theory. It is because in the movie there are some ethnics western, indian, and asian. Thus, it can discuss how the treatments of western to the third world.
