Abstract
Globalization has a great contribution to intensify the contact between Indonesian and English. Many languages, including between Bahasa Indonesia and English. The contact can be realized in all mode of communication, it can be in speaking or writing. As a consequence, there is a possibility when the languages are used at the sametime. The use of two languages in an utterance usually called as code mixing. Code mixing is a natural phenomenon found by bilingual communities where the speaker used two or more languages in speech and written. The data in this research were the sentences containing the code mixing in written form; it is on Belia column in Pikiran Rakyat newspaper. There are two main problems which were formulated in this research: 1) What are the morphological process of words and phrase of code mixing that appears on Belia column in Pikiran Rakyat? 2) What are the reasons of using the code mixing on Belia column in Pikiran Rakyat according to the writers? In order to find the answer for the two problems, the researcher used the theory that is related to the study of code mixing especially the theory that focuses on morphological process of word and phrase. The researcher used some theories in analyzing the forms of code mixing which were accumulated into four points. There were definition of code mixing, morphological process of word categories that consist of affixation, reduplication and compound, phrase categories that consist of noun phrase, verb phrase and adjective phrase. In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The combination of the two research methods is applied as a way of describing the research findings. In collecting the data, the researcher used documentation and interview methods. The result of this research shows that: 1) There were three forms of morphological process of word categories in code mixing text and three forms of phrases categories. In word categories there are 42 data that consist of 26 data of affixation, 5 data of reduplication, and 11 data of compound. There were 23 data that could be classified as phrase categories. They consist of data including 16 data of noun phrase, 4 data of verb phrase and 3 data of adjective phrase. 2) The reason of using code mixing could be classified as follow: a. To be more interested, b. As siutuational factors, c. To be adapted to the readers, 4. As language attitudes including social dominance. The researcher concluded that there are six forms of morphological process of words and phrase from some theories. There are four reasons of the use of code mixing on Belia column in Pikiran Rakyat based on the writers that is adapted from the theory of Bhatia and Ritchi. For the next research, the researcher suggests to analyze the type of code mixing in the specific community and the researcher also suggests that it is better to explore deeper about code mixing in speech or written.
