Abstract
In the globalization age, Indonesia is one of developing countries which people are very apprehensive with technology, especially the technology of telecommunications and information. One of telecommunication technologies is mobile phone. This technology mostly comes from foreign countries that provide a manual book printed in English as a guide for the user. For most of Indonesians are not familiar in English, the translation of this guide book has a significant role to make the book understood by Indonesians. For getting a good translation, there are some conditions that should be comprehended by a translator but unfortunately not all translators have it. This phenomena causes the improperness of translation. The writer finds some improperness of translation in the owner's guide of mobile phone product. Relating to this statement, the writer would like to do a research pertaining to the improperness of translation and the sentences that get the transformation as a result of translating in the owner's guide of nokia 5510. This research uses a descriptive method to describe the problems. The used data in this research are the data that have the transformation such as borrowing, modulation, omission, adaptation and others. The writer also uses the study of literature to get the data and this data are taken from two sources; the primary source is the owner's guide of NOKIA 5510, while the secondary sources are taken from books and any kind of stuffs relates to the problems. For answering the formulation of problem, the writer did it in integrated way it means that firstly, the writer determined the data that will be analyzed based on the theory of translation, then the writer analyzed the data to find the improperness that exist in the form of transformation such as borrowing, modulation, omission, adaptation and others. Basically, the owner's guide of NOKIA 5510 is quite effective translation but there is some improperness that found in the book. Most of the improperness is existed in the transformation of translation, such as borrowing, modulation, omission, adaptation and others. In some cases, it becomes such an improper translation that causes confusion.
