Abstract

INDONESIA : Penelitian ini membahas tentang analisis sintakdan makna di dalam judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999). Penulis memilih judul-judul novel sebagai objek di dalam penelitian ini karena judul-judul novel merupakan salah satu media dari banyaknya media yang dapat dianalisis menggunakan teori sintak dan semantik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti dua masalah utama, yaitu : 1. Apa pola-pola dari element sintak dengan menggunakan diagram pohon yang di temukan di dalam judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-199), 2) Apa jenis-jenis makna yang di temukan di dalam judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine (19992-1999). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Di dalam menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan beberapa teori yang sesuai. Teori yang pertama yaitu teori tentang diagram pohon dari Linda Thomas untuk menganalisis elemen-elemen sintak. Teori yang kedua adalah teori tentang makna dari Geofrey Leech untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis makna pada judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 67 judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine terdapat 12 judul novel yang berbentuk kalimat dan 55 judul novel yang berbentuk frasa. Judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999) yang berbentuk sebagai kalimat memiliki tiga pola, yaitu: 1) S terdiri dari NP+ VP 2) Subjek terdiri dari VP+PP 3) S terdiri dari NP+VP+NP. Sedangkan judul-judul novel dari Robert Lawrence Stine yang berbentuk frase terutama frase nomina memiliki empat pola, yaitu: 1) NP terdiri dari Det+NP^' 2) NP terdiri dari NP+PP 3) NP terdiri dari A+N 4) NP terdiri dari A+NP^'.Selain itu, judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine yang berbentuk sebagai frase kata kerja memiliki tiga pola, yaitu: 1) VP terdiri dari VgP+ PP 2) VP terdiri dari VgP+ Coord 3) VP terdiri dari VgP+NP dan judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine yang berbentuk sebagai frasa prepositional memiliki satu pola, yaitu: 1) PP terdiri dari Prep+NP. Selain itu, jenis-jenis makna yang ditemukan di dalam judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999) adalah makna denotatif (41 data) dan konotatif (27 data). Akhirnya dapat disimpulkan bahwa elemen sintak pada judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999) memiliki pola yang bervariasi. Sementara itu, jenis makna yang lebih banyak digunakan pada judul-judul novel karya Robert Lawrence Stine adalah makna denotatif dari pada makna konotatif. ENGLISH : This graduating paper is talking about syntactic and meaning analysis of novel titles Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999)’s. The writer uses novel titles as the object of research because novel titles are some of various media which can be analyzed by using syntax and semantic theory. This research is aimed to investigate two main problems. They are: 1. What patterns of syntax elements using tree diagram are found in novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999)? 2. What kinds of meaning are found in novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999)? This research employs descriptive qualitative method and in analyzing the data, the writer uses some suitable theories. The first one is the theory of tree diagram proposed by Linda Thomas to analyze the syntax elements and the second one is the theory of meaning proposed by Geofrey Leech to analyze kinds of meaning in novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999). The result of the research shows that from 67 novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999) there are 12 novel titles which are formed as sentence and 55 novel titles which are formed as phrase. Novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999) formed as sentence have three patterns as follows: 1) S consists of NP+ VP 2) S+VP+PP 3) S consists of NP+VP+NP. Meanwhile, novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999) formed as phrase especially noun phrase have four patterns as follows : 1) NP consists of Det+NP^' 2) NP consists of NP+PP 3) NP consists of A+N 4) NP consists of A+NP^'. Beside that, novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999) which is formed as verb phrase have three patterns as follows: 1) VP consists of VgP+ PP 2) VP consists of VgP+ Coord 3) VP consists of VgP+NP and novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999) which is formed as prepositional phrase have one pattern as follows : 1) PP consist of Prep+NP. Besides, kinds of meaning in novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999) are denotative (41 data) and connotative meaning (27 data). Finally, it can be concluded that syntax elements in novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine (1992-1999) have various pattern and the meaning used more in novel titles of Robert Lawrence Stine is denotative meaning than connotative one.
