Abstract

Islamic songs are familiar in Indonesia people either the songs are in Indonesian, Arabic or English. The Islamic English songs are also familiar such as Maher Zain, Raef, and Haris J. The lyric of the song is one of the most important elements in music. People often find the difficulty to understand the meaning of words in lyric. Because, ‎the meaning words have many interpretations. Based on the background, the researcher confines ‎the problem of the research are: 1.‎ What are the types of associative meanings are found in Islamic Song ‎Lyrics?‎ 2.‎ What are the functions of associative meaning in Islamic Song Lyrics?‎ The objects of this research are the lyrics from some Islamic song singers such as Maher Zain, Raef, and Haris J. The lyric is written in English and contained much meaning. This research explained the meaning of lyrics in Islamic songs which are kind of associative meaning to get the understanding of the message from the lyrics of song. The method was descriptive and used qualitative approach for the analysis. The results of this research are: 1. There are associative meanings in the lyrics of songs, particularly Connotative, Stylistic, Affective, Reflected, and Collocative meanings in all of data. 2. The functions mostly represent about the other meaning from words, phrases or clauses to other things even out of context
