Abstract

INDONESIA : Roman ialah salah satu genre sastra populer yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini. Topik penelitian ini adalah peggambaran fantasi moral dari novel Dear John karya Nicholas Sparks. Agar penelitian lebih rinci, analisisnya dibagi menjadi dua permasalahan yakni: 1. Bagaimana fantasi moral roman tergambar dalam novel Dear John karya Nicholas Sparks? 2. Apa peran-peran fantasi moral dalam mendukung formula roman dalam novel Dear John karya Nicholas Sparks? Untuk mendukung analisis, peneliti menggunakan teori dari John G. Cawelti dan beberapa pendapat lain yang mendukung penelitian ini. Teori Cawelti yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah yang berkaitan dengan formula roman yang ada di fiksi populer. Data yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah novel berjudul Dear John karya Nicholas Sparks yang diunduh secara online dipublikasikan oleh kkoworld tahun 2009. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan strukturalis. Oleh karena itu, data dikutip, diklasifikasikan, dijelaskan, dan dideskripsikan secara sistematis agar dapat menjawab pertanyaan masalah penelitian. Ada dua hasil yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini. Pertama, penggambaran fantasi moral roman dalam novel Dear John dapat dilihat dari tiga poin. Yakni yang pertama kemampuan kedua karakter utama dalam menyelesaikan masalah percintaan mereka dimana mereka terpaksa harus berhubungan jarak jauh. Kedua, cinta yang awet antara John dan Savannah walaupun mereka sudah berpisah dan yang ketiga adalah pengorbanan cinta yang dilakukan John untuk kebahagiaan Savannah. Dia menjual semua koin berharga peninggalan ayahnya untuk operasi kanker suami Savannah, Tim. Peran fantasi moral dalam mendukung formula roman dalam novel Dear John adalah sebagai eskapisme atau bentuk melepaskan diri dari realita dan membuat formula roman lebih menarik. ENGLISH : Romance is one of genres in popular literature which is being discussed in this research. The topic of this research is the portrayal of moral fantasy of romance in Nicholas Sparks’ Dear John. To specify the research, the analysis is divided into two statements of problem, namely: 1. How is moral fantasy of romance portrayed in Nicholas Sparks’ Dear John? 2. What are the roles of moral fantasy in supporting the romance formula in Nicholas Sparks’ Dear John? To support the analysis, the researcher used Cawelti’s theory and some other supporting arguments to solve the questions of the research. The theory used is the formula of romance genre in popular fictions. The data used in this research is Dear John novel written by Nicholas Sparks which is downloaded from internet, published by kkoworld in 2009. This research used structuralism as literary approach. Thus the data will be cited, classified, described, and analyzed systematically to be able to answer the question in the statement problems. There are two results of this research. First is the portrayal of moral fantasy of romance in Nicholas Sparks’ Dear John that can be seen by three points. The first point is the ability of both hero and heroine to overcome their obstacle in which John and Savannah are separated for a year and able to reunite. The lasting and permanent impact of love is the second. Even John and Savannah are not meant to be together, they still love and care to each other. The last is the sacrifice that John does to make Savannah happy to indicate his true love. He sells all of his deceased father’s coins to help Tim’s surgery so that he can extend his lifetime. The supporting roles of moral fantasy in the novel are as an escapism and making fascinating formula. From the moral fantasy, readers could find it as a way out of real life for awhile and it is also a good method to make interesting romance formula.
