Abstract

ENGLISH This research analyzed representation of ideal American hero in Mark Twain’s The Adventure of Tom Sawyer. The objectives of this research are (1) to a representation of ideal American hero in Mark Twain’s The Adventure of Tom Sawyer (2) to describe how is American ideal romantic hero in Mark Twain’s The Adventure of Tom Sawyer. The method used in this research is literary criticism method, the the object and the data in this research from Mark Twain’s novel The Adventure of Tom Sawyer, published in 1876. The results of an analysis from ideal American hero representations show that there are proofs from innocence, brave, self-reliance, and close to nature, while the analysis results from describing a show that proofs in characterization which is divided into three parts, there are clever, imaginative, and rebellious. In the settings shows that proof to supports arguments in representations and also descriptions. After analysing the novel The Adventure of Tom Sawyer. Based on the finding and discussion, the researcher can conclude that Ideal American hero can be represented from innocence, brave, self-reliance, and close to nature, while American ideal romantic hero can describe from characterization and setting. This study is to provide understanding to readers especially those who focus on American literature. As increasing the ability of students and readers to understand the literature, especially American literature. INDONESIA Penelitian ini tentang representasi pahlawan Amerika ideal dalam The Adventure of Tom Sawyer karya Mark Twain. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) untuk merepresentasikan pahlawan Amerika ideal dalam The Adventure of Tom Sawyer karya Mark Twain (2) untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana American ideal romantic hero dalam The Adventure of Tom Sawyer karya Mark Twain. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kritik sastra, objek dan sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah dari novel Mark Twain The Adventure of Tom Sawyer, yang diterbitkan pada tahun 1876. Hasil analisis representasi ideal Amerika hero menunjukkan bahwa ada bukti dari Innocence, Brave, Self Reliance, dan close to nature, sedangkan hasil analisis dari deskripsi menunjukkan bahwa bukti dalam karakterisasi yang terbagi menjadi tiga bagian, clever, imajinatif , rebellious, dalam setting menunjukkan bahwa bukti mendukung argumen dalam representasi dan deskripsi. Setelah menganalisis novel The Adventure of Tom Sawyer. Berdasarkan temuan dan diskusi, peneliti dapat menyimpulkan bahwa Amerika ideal hero dapat diwakili dari innocence, brave, self reliance dan close to nature, sedangkan Amerika ideal romatic hero dapat digambarkan dari karakterisasi dan setting. Penelitian ini adalah untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada pembaca terutama mereka yang fokus pada sastra Amerika. Seperti meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dan pembaca untuk memahami sastra, terutama sastra Amerika.
