Abstract

ENGLISH: Language style is the way people use language to interact with others which depends on what the topic, who they are talk to, when and where those dialogues take place. Therefore, this research is interested in analyzing the language style that used in form of spoken language that written in the script. There is the unique from the movie, because this movie has the unique settings, there are in The Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead. Hence, the data in this research is focus to the main character’s utterances of Coco movie. The main character name is Miguel. However, this research are divided into two problems, specifically; what kinds of language styles are used by the main character in Coco movie and how do the contexts support the main character in using the language style. To find out both of the problems, the writer is using theoretical framework based on Language Style by Joos (1967) and Speech Event by Hymes (1974). For the first theory Joos divided Language Style into five kinds, there are Frozen Style, Formal Style, Consultative Style, Casual Style, and Intimate style. For the second theory, Hymes divided Speech Event into eight contexts that become an acronym as S-P-E-A-K-I-N-G that means Setting and scene, Participant, End, Act sequence, Key, Instrumentalities, Norms and Genre. Furthermore, to analyze the data, the writer used qualitative method especially qualitative content analysis to describe the data in analyzed. For analyze the data, the writer used Dorney (2007) theory to find the result of the research problem such as browsing the internet, observing Coco movie, reading Coco movie script, and marking the main character’s utterances. Based on the result of data analysis, the writer found intimate and consultative style that used in the main character’s utterances from two settings; the land of the living and the land of the dead. Besides, there were found all components of speech events that support in using language style. In setting the land of the living, mostly the main character used intimate style because the main character often talks with his family that has the intimate relation. However, in setting the land of the dead, the main character mostly used consultative style because the main character talks with his family who already died and never met before. It can be concluded that from Joos theory, all of the main character’s utterances found the intimate and consultative style that mostly used in the settings the land of the living and the land of the dead. Hence, it also found that all the contexts of the speech event are used in support of use of language style. INDONESIA: Ragam bahasa adalah cara orang menggunakan bahasa untuk berinteraksi dengan orang lain yang bergantung pada apa topiknya, siapa yang mereka ajak bicara, kapan dan dimana pembicaraan tersebut berlangsung. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini tertarik dalam menganalisis ragam bahasa yang digunakan dalam bentuk bahasa lisan yang ditertulis di naskah. Ada yang unik dari film Coco, karena film ini memiliki latar yang menarik, ada yang di dunia kedupan, dan di dunia kematian Maka dari itu, data dalam penelitian ini berfokus pada ujaran tokoh utama dari film Coco. Nama dari tokoh utama adalah Miguel. Namun, penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua masalah, yaitu; jenis ragam bahasa apa yang digunakan oleh tokoh utama dalam film Coco dan bagaimana konteks mendukung tokoh utama dalam menggunakan ragam bahasa. Untuk mencari tahu kedua masalah itu, penulis menggunakan kerangka kerja teoritis berdasarkan teori ragam bahasa oleh Joos (1976) dan Peristiwa tutur oleh Hymes (1974). Untuk teori pertama, Joos membagi ragam bahasa dalam lima jenis, yaitu ragam beku, ragam resmi, ragam konsultasi, ragam santai, dan ragam intim. Untuk teori kedua, Hymes membagi peristiwa tutur menjadi delapan konteks yang menjadi singkatan sebagai S-P-E-A-K-I-N-G yang berarti latar dan adegan, partisipan, tujuan, tindakan, kunci, instrumentalitas, norma dan gaya. Selain itu, untuk menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif terutama analisis konten kualitatif untuk menguraikan data dalam analisis. Untuk menganalisis data itu, penulis menggunakan teori Dorney (2007) untuk menemukan hasil dari masalah penelitian seperti mencari di internet, mengamati film Coco, membaca naskah film, dan menandai ungkapan-ungkapan tokoh utama. Berdasarkan hasil analisa data, penulis menemukan ragam intim dan ragam konsultatif yang digunakan dalam ungkapan-ungkapan tokoh utama dari dua latar; dunia kehidupan dan dunia kematian. Selain itu, terdapat semua komponen peristiwa tutur yang mendukung dalam penggunaan ragam bahasa. Di latar dunia kehidupan, tokoh utama lebih banyak menggunakan ragam intim karena tokoh utama sering berbicara dengan keluarganya yang telah mengenal baik hubungannya. Namun, di latar dunia kematian, tokoh utama lebih banyak menggunakan ragam konsultatif karena tokoh utama berbicara dengan keluarganya yang sudah meninggal dan tidak pernah bertemu sebelumnya. Hal ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa dari teori Joss, semua ungkapan tokoh utama ditemukan ragam intim dan kosultatif yang digunakan dalam latar dunia kehidupan dan dunia kematian. Demikian juga ditemukan bahwa semua konteks peristiwa tutur digunakan dalam mendukung penggunaan ragam bahasa.
