Abstract
Speech delivered by a leader has an influence on his audience. The listeners have to listen to what the speaker delivered about, because the speaker conveys something that can be important. Therefore, when a leader gives a speech, it has a big influence to the listeners. The influential person for example, one of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. In addition, this research focuses on the usage of representative members of illocutionary acts by John Searle’s theory on speeches of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2011 and at the Indonesia Investment Day 2012 and to find out the direct and indirect speech acts in Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s speeches. The researcher used qualitative analysis method. The researcher applied descriptive method to analyze the members of representative illocutionary acts also direct and indirect speech acts. The data are taken from World Economic Forum official website and KBRI Washington DC official website. From the analysis, the researcher finds seven members of representative illocutionary acts in World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2011 video and transcript, which are; stating, hypothesizing, claiming, concluding, describing, predicting, informing. And the researcher finds five members of representative illocutionary acts in Indonesia Investment Day 2012 video and transcript which are; stating, claiming, describing, predicting, and informing. Representative of stating are dominantly in both the speeches with 111 data as the result in total. And this research found the direct speech acts as the dominant of both the speeches.
