Abstract

ENGLISH : The objectives of this study are (1) to identify the swearwords available in Steinbeck’s novel “Of Mice and Men (2) to describe what of translation techniques using to translate swearwords in Steinbeck’s novel “Of Mice and Men” to “Tikus dan Manusia” by Pramoedya Ananta Toer The data are taken from the source language novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeick and its translation version in target language Tikus dan Manusia by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. The data are all the conversations in the source language and target language in the novel which contains the swearword, then they are categorized based on the theory The data are analyzed by using the theory of swearword by Hudges (1991), Trugill (1978) and Allan dan Burridge (2006), and also the translation techniques theory by Molina dan Albir (2005) and Fawcet (1997). Based on the research, there are 9 data of imbecile term for nuts, cuckoo, and ain’t bright, 23 data general terms for bastard and crazy, 39 data of death terms for the hell and goddamn, 6 data of mother in law terms for son of bitch, 1 data of racist for Nigger, 3 data of animal terms of rats, chicken, and cat, and 6 data of sexual irregulities for tart and bitch, and also there are 5 kinds of swearword translation techniques in the research, they are 9 data of literal translation, 1 data of particularization, 1 data of reduction, 3 data of transposition, 1 data of adaptation, 1 data reformulation, and 6 data combination. INDONESIA : Skripsi ini berjudul Swearword In Steinbeck’s Novel Of Mice and Men and Its Indonesia Translated Version in Toer’s Tikus dan Manusia (An Analysis of Translation Technique). Tujuan dari penulisan penelitian ini adalah untuk (1) megidentifikasi kata makian yang terdapat dalam novel Of Mice and Men karya John Steinbeck (2) mendeskripsikan teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan untuk menerjemahkan kata makian dalam novel Of Mice and Men karya John Steinbeck ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Data yang dianalisis berasal dari novel bahasa Inggris Of Mice and Men oleh John Steinbeck dan terjemahannya dalam bahasa Indonesia yang diterjemahkan menjadi Tikus dan manusia oleh Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Data tersebut adalah semua percakapan yang mengandung kata makian dalam bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Indonesia dikumpulkan dan selanjutnya dibagi sesuai dengan teori yang digunakan Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori swearwords Hudges (1991), Trugill (1978) juga Allan dan Burridge (2006), serta teori teknik penerjemahan Molina dan Albir (2005) dan Fawcet (1997). Dari hasil analisis 96 kata makian, ditemukan 9 data imbecile terms, 23 data general terms, 39 data death terms, 6 data mother in law terms, 1 data racist terms 3 data animal teems, dan 6 data sexual irregulities terms. Serta 5 jenis teknik penerjemahan swearwords yaitu 9 data tekni literal, 1 data partikularisasi, 1 data reduksi, 3 data transposition dan 1 data adaptasi,1 reformulasi dan 6 data teknik kombinasi.
