Abstract

Mystic Messenger is one of famous visual novel video game which has the opening video in beginning of the game and the ending video in the end of the game of reach the good ending. In those video appears Korean and English subtitle which questioning its translation because the different large transferring both of languages. Based on the problem, this research aim to discovering about the question: 1) What is the translation method used to translate the subtitle of Korean to English which appears in the opening and the ending Another Story of video game Mystic Messenger? 2) What is the equivalence in translation of translating Korean to English in the subtitle of the opening and the ending Another Story of video game Mystic Messenger? The aim of this research is to discovering about translation method and equivalence in translation used to translating Korean to English.This research used qualitative descriptive method in analysis. The data is the subtitle that appears in subtitle on the opening and the ending Another Story of video game Mystic Messenger. Researcher used purposive sampling to get the sample of data. There are four possible translation method used to translate the subtitle, they are literal translation method, semantic translation method, communicative translation method, and free translation method. The equivalence in translation they are meaning equivalence, semantic equivalence, and linguistic equivalence.
