Abstract
This study analyzed the phrase nouns in the speech text of Joko Widodo as president at the event Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia at the annual session of the people's consultative assembly of the Republic of Indonesia 2018. In particular, this study discussed the function of noun phrases and construction of noun phrases in the text of Joko Widodo's speech. Focusing on research problems, there are two problems in this study. The first is the function of the noun phrase in Joko Widodo's text speech. The second is how the noun phrase is contructed in the sentence in the text. In this study the formation of the noun phrase, researchers used the syntactic theory of Radford. In this theory the syntax is concerned with form phrases and sentences. Meanwhile, in analyzing the function of the noun phrase, the researcher uses the theory of Quirck and Greenbaum. The result of data analysis of noun phrase function in Joko Widodo’s text speech, it can be concluded that noun phrase as subject, noun phrase as object, noun phrase as complement, noun phrase of subject complement, and noun phrase object complement. Then, the sentence can be constructed using tree diagrams.
