Abstract
ENGLISH According to linguists, a violation of pragmatic rules of language is related to the emergence of humor elements in the use of language. This phenomenon is contained in the dialogue of the film characters of Deadpool 2. Furthermore, this study aims to describe the utterances of the Deadpool 2 film characters which contain violations of the pragmatic rules of language and identify the forms of humor created. To find this, the theory used in this study is based on the theory of violation of cooperative principles proposed by Paul H. Grice (1975) and the theory of violation of felicity conditions proposed by Hancher (in Ferrar, 1993) and Asa Arthur Berger’s verbal humor typologies (1997). This research is a qualitative descriptive study with data collection techniques of observation and note-taking, and analysis techniques of transcripting and classifying. The results of this study show three conclusions. First, forms of violation Grice’s cooperative principles and Searle’s felicity conditions in the film Deadpool 2 consist of the violations of maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner with a total of 33 occurances. Second, the violations of the Searle's felicity conditions are in the form of propositional content condition and sincerity condition with a total of 6 occurances. There are data that contain violations of both Grice’s cooperative principles and Searle’s felicity conditions. They are maxim of quantity-preparatory condition, maxim of quantity-essential condition, maxim of quality-propositional content condition, maxim of relation-preparatory condition, maxim of relation-propositional content condition, and maxim of manner-propositional content condition with a total of 9 occurances. The last, the forms of verbal humor consist of allusion, bombast, exaggeration, facetiousness, insult, missunderstanding, over-literalness, puns, repartee, ridicule, satire, allusion-satire, bombast-facetiousness-ridicule, bombast-ridicule, repartee-ridicule, facetiousness-missunderstanding, irony, repartee-sarcasm, and insult-repartee. The researcher encourages to carry out the same research for future researchers. It is because studies that combine violations of Grice's cooperative principles and Searle felicity conditions in verbal humor discourse are still rarely conducted. Pelanggaran tersebut terdiri dari maxim of quantity-preparatory condition, maxim of quantity-essential condition, maxim of quality-propositional content condition, maxim of relation-preparatory condition, maxim of relation-propositional content condition, dan maxim of manner-propositional content condition dengan jumlah sebanyak 9 kejadian.
