Abstract

The Silence of The Lambs movie script is a detective fiction movie unusually played by the woman character Clarice Starling. Meanwhile, most of previous detective movie placed women as supporting, roles, while here women is made as the main character. Thus, this fact led the researcher to conduct research on this by proposing the following questions: 1). What is the aspect of masculinity of Clarice Starling constructed in The Silence of The Lambs movie script?; 2). How is the heroine of Clarice Starling portrayed in The Silence of The Lambs movie script? The main theory used in this research to answer those questions is Halbertsam’s (1998) and Bernstein’s (2010) theories telling about the masculinity and heroine. Furthermore, the researcher also used the Hourihan (1997) and R.W Connell (1995) theories as supporting theories telling about the character of masculinity and heroine. The method used by the researcher is qualitative method, while the data collection technique used in this research is the documentation technique and the source of data is written the movie script. The result of research can explain that Clarice Starling as the main character can be said as masculin. Furthermore, the main character also can be categorized as a heroine, because she is able to follow the stages of her investigation as a female detective and as the heroine. The conclusion in The Silence of the Lambs movie script can be understood that the characters have nine aspects of masculinity and female heroes who are able to contribute in solving a case.
