Abstract

This research is entitled ‘The Differences of Code Switching Used by Male and Female ini Talkshow TV program’. The purpose of this study is to find out (1) What type and function of code switching used by male and female in Ini Talkshow TV Program (2) What are the differences types and functions used both male and female in Ini Talkshow TV Program. Data sources in the study this is a talk show program on Net TV station called Ini Talkshow. The method used in this study is a qualitative method that produces descriptive data. The data collection method in this study uses recorded talk shows in audio data and uses notes to transcribe data. The author reads a number of relevant books and several closed manuals related to the topic of this writing. Researchers collected data on types and functions and differentiated between those used by male and female in Ini Talkshow. The author bases the theories of Poplack, Apple and Muysken. There are 3 methods of study that researchers use, namely type studies to collect data types used by gender then study functions to collect data functions that are used by gender and then look for differences in the use of types and functions used by gender in the tv program Ini Talkshow. The results revealed that male more often use types and functions while female use fewer types and functions. Male use type code switching to explain the use of the Tag Switching type to clarify the next sentence, then the next type Intersential Switching to explain a sentence by translating from Indonesian to English while male use the Poetic Function to make a humor deliberately translate sentences from Indonesian to English is wrong, then male use the Expressive Function to express their expressions to make a humor. While female use the Tag Switching type to explain the previous sentence, then the Inter-Sentential Switching type to explain the sentence by translating from English to Indonesian. then female use the Expressive Function to explain their happy feelings.
