Abstract

Conflict is a social problem that arises due to differences of view that occur within the community or the state. Social problem that occurs at everyone is caused by several things including the environment, society, and nature. Therefore this thesis discusses the social conflict of the main character in the novel Will Grayson, Will Grayson. This research is aimed to find two things: 1) Social conflict that occurs in main character namely Will Grayson. 2) Cause and solution of social conflict that occurs at Will Grayson. The data in each research use different theories.The theory of social conflict by Lewis Coser is used to analyze social conflict that occurs in Will Grayson, then the cause and solution that happened to Will Grayson use the theory of Ritzer George and Douglas which focuses on how to fix the problem. This research uses qualitative descriptive method to find social conflicts experienced by Will Grayson. After several have been data collected from each chapter in the Will Grayson, Will Grayson novel. The researcher conducted the identification, determination, analysis and conclusion to data research. The result of this research shows that Will Grayson is a main character in Will Grayson, Will Grayson novel. In the story, Will Grayson is a depressed gay. He often complains because he considers that he has unfairly life. Therefore he has many conflicts with his friends and his parents. The causes are because his parents separated and his gay issues. Then the solution is he met with the same person with different personality that could change his life better. It can be concluded the conflict happens in Will Grayson, Will Grayson novel is very complicated, but in spite of a complete social conflict from friendship until family problems, finally Will Grayson can handle and finish the problem. Therefore, the next researcher can continue this research in analyzing social conflict in Will Grayson as the main character, in Will Grayson, WillGrayson novel. In addition, for the observers of English literature and readers in general, this research can increase knowledge about the literature.
