Abstract

In this research analyzed about sex and power in Pretty Woman movie script. This was formulated in three research question, namely: 1) How was sexuality found in the Pretty Woman movie script? 2) What is the perspective of male figures on the discourse of sexuality to the character Vivian Ward? And finally 3.) What is the relationship between sexuality and power in Pretty Woman? In this research, discusses how the discourse of sexuality is made into works of art, one of which is through film. The discourse of sexuality itself in this study uses the main theories of Michel Focault. In discussing the structure of literary works, this study uses several additional theories such as theories about not intrinsic in a work. So from the rationale in this research focused on sexuality and control relationships are seen using literature. The method used in this study is a qualitative method and a method of literary criticism where the results in this study do not produce numbers or images. This research produces a discourse of sexuality in a work where sexuality has a relationship with power. The decisive power in this study addresses authority as in an institution or state, which is approved by Focault and the power that occurs everywhere and every individual who wants the will to rule. The results of the data analysis, research has found about discourse about sexuality which is formed through the great authority that produces discourse, one of which is the discourse of sexuality. This research reveals how the process of discourse about sexuality is formed through power. One of them is to consider sex that is not taboo or a private form added to a form of capitalism in a way of purpose in order to lead the public opinion in terms of sex.
