Abstract

In this study discusses, human needs, several levels of human needs are grouped by Maslow, and according to Maslow's human needs the writer to analyzed through literary works namely Pretty Woman Script by Lowton, these are formulated into 2 research questions, namely: 1) How are vivian and Edward characters describe in pretty woman script by lowton? 2) How do vivian and Edward fulfill their needs? In analyzed, the writer used the Qualitative method. Data sources taken by the writer from Script Pretty Woman (1989) In this study, the writer used a qualitative method, according to Bodgan and Biklen (1982). is an approach to bring descriptive data in the form of written and oral data from research subjects being investigated. Furthermore, it is a treatment that is considered a phenomenon. Krathwohl (in Wiersma, 1995) asserted that qualitative research is research that describes phenomena in writing as objects, not numbers or measurements. Thus, data and analysis are in descriptive form and data are collected in the form of words, not data frequency (Moleong, 2001: 6). Therefore, conclusions are made without producing generalizations. This means that in qualitative analysis, researchers describe facts and then analyze them in the form of written data. From the above definition, it can be concluded that in qualitative analysis methods, and then written data is formed in descriptive data, researchers try to describe phenomena that are then analyzed in relation to the object of research, that is, what is needed by humans from the past. until now it was needed, in the object of research in Pretty Woman's manuscript. The results of data analysis show . Vivian and Edward are the main characters in Pretty Woman Movie Script. The purpose of this research is to find out more deeply the character of Vivian and Edward by analyzing and studying again the basic human needs following Maslow's theory. In this study, Abraham H Maslow's Hierarchy of human needs theory is grouped into five sets of subsidiaries. These needs are physiological needs, safety needs, love and ownership, appreciation needs and self-actualization needs. At the first level, physiological needs, Vivian and Edward can meet the needs easily. But at the level of security needs, love and ownership, and appreciation needs, he is challenged in meeting needs because he has too many threats. That condition gave him enthusiasm to make ends meet. That spirit made him go through the process of life. So, he can meet the needs very well. In conclusion, Vivian and Edward meet their needs to the highest level.
