Abstract

In academic writing, citation is important in written work in any kind. This term is used to give the credit to the original author source of work which is used. In writing academic term, some students are still careless about how they cite, so that, it makes the students brought into plagiarism practice. Therefore, mastering citation is much needed for students especially English Education Students because in writing final paper they would use citation for credit their sources. Thus, this research is focusing on the students’ citation in their final paper. This paper is written to achieve some objectives as follows: a) to find about how English Education students used citation in their final paper, b) to find out what kind of citation source used by English Education Students on their final paper, and c) to figure out how the English Education Students represent their citation in the Reference list. The method used in this study is descriptive method in form of qualitative research. The research was carried out at State Islamic University Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, There are 4 graduated students of English Education Department whose the final paper are analyzed and as the respondents. After collecting and analyzing the data, this research showed that the students used HARVARD citation style by organize the citation especially in-text citation manually. S1 used (12) quotation, (26) paraphrase, and (0) summary. The S2 used (19) quotation, (62) paraphrase, and (0) summary. And S3 used (56) quotation, (23) paraphrase, and (0) summary. Lastly, S4 used (8) quotation, (76) paraphrase, (2) summary. The use of paraphrase is dominate in students’ final paper. There are only four sources that is used by the students such as book, journal, website and paper. Meanwhile, in organizing Reference list, the students used Microsoft Word to help them manage it in instant. Referring to the result of the study, it can be concluded that the use of citation in the final paper is important to improve the quality of students’ final paper. The researcher suggests to discuss with the supervisor about the use of citation.
