Abstract

In the 2013 curriculum, one of the demands of the Biology syllabus was to strengthen aspects of spiritual and character education to prepare students to face the 21st-century development. The teachers in Madrasah Aliyah (MA) experienced challenges in integrating the learning materials of Biology with relevant Al-Qur'an verses.The objective of this research is to map learning materials of Biology based on the basic competencies in the 2013 curriculum with relevant Al-Qur'an verses. This research is a qualitative research with document study as the main data. Supporting data used are unstructured questionnaires. The main data was analyzed descriptive qualitatively, while the supporting data was made in the form of percentage and analyzed descriptively. This research resulted in the mapping of Qur'anic verses, which are 183 verses related to plants and animals, that were then mapped on to the biology syllabus of 46 verses for grade X, 38 verses for grade XI, and 68 verses for grade XII. Based on the results of the analysis, a match between basic competencies which include the ability to identify, explain, compile knowledge, group, formulate ideas, analyze, and make products was obtained. The competences mentioned are in accordance with the verses contained in the Al-Qur'an. Thus, the mapping of Al-Qur'an verses in highschool biology can be taught because of the compatibility between the basic competences and the Qur'anic verses to support 21st-century competencies.
