Abstract
Borrowing word has become a common phenomenon as long as the development of globalization. It is a result of language contact in context Indonesian vocabularies adopts English vocabularies. This paper examines borrowing word that are taken from headlines of Tribun Jabar newspaper published on February 8, 2020. Therefore, there are some questions focused by the researcher: 1) What types of borrowing words are used in Headlines of Tribun Jabar Newspaper Published on February 8, 2020? 2) What patterns of borrowing words are used in Headlines of Tribun Jabar Newspaper Published on February 8, 2020? 3) How are the semantic meaning changes in Headlines of Tribun Jabar Newspaper Published on February 8, 2020? This research is designed in a qualitative approach using content analysis method. This research applies theory of types of borrowing word from Hocket (1958), theory of patterns of borrowing words from Sadtono (2004), and theory of semantic changes from Baugh (1993). As the result, from (51 data) borrowing words founded in headlines of Tribun Jabar newspaper, the researcher finds three types of borrowing words which are (37) loan words, (11) loan blends, and (3) loan shifts. In addition, the researcher finds five patterns of borrowing words which are (11) total borrowings, (32) partial borrowings, (3) total modification of loan words, (10) borrowing with modified meanings, and (1) partial phrase borrowing. Meanwhile, there is no data that shows newly created words based on loanword. Furthermore, the researcher finds two kinds of semantic changes which are extension meaning and narrowing meaning. There are (4 data) that are considered as extension meaning and (11 data) that are considered as narrowing meaning. Meanwhile, (36 data) are considered as same meaning. The borrowing words in printed mass media such as Tribun Jabar newspaper often happens in Indonesia and even have officially become Indonesian vocabulary. There are some words that get semantic changes and some others show the same meaning. It means that the borrowing words from English into Indonesian language are acceptable.
