Abstract
This study investigates expressive speech act in Forrest Gump movie script. The objectives of the study are to know types of expressive speech act based on Searle category used by characters that found in Forrest Gump movie script and to find out the purpose of expressive speech act by the characters in Forrest Gump movie script. The research has two research questions which indicate the process of the analysis of the movie script : 1) what are kinds of expressive speech act in Forrest Gump movie script? 2) what are the purposes of expressive speech act in Forrest Gump movie script?, This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The result of the research shows that the researcher found all types of expressive speech act such as like, dislike, sorrow, pleasure and joy. The expressive purpose is used to communicate, or express, the personal feelings or thoughts of them. Form the five kinds of expressive speech acts that were found by the researcher, dislike expressions were the most often appear act in the movie script. The result is everyone or every characters can express their expressive speech act like anger by frowning or happiness by smiling or laughing, or admiration by raising eyebrows and opening eyes wider and everyone also can express their sadness by crying. Although, basicly there are so many expressive speech act.
