Abstract
Listening is a channel for comprehensive input and more than 50 percent of the time learners spend in learning a foreign language is devoted to listening (Jafari, Hashim, 2015). For some students, listening is a difficult ability because students need to pay attention and concentrate to the listening subject. Students need to carry out an adaptation process and effective learning strategies to make listening learning easier. Thus, this research attempts to explore the implementation of audiobook activities in teaching listening. The research was aimed 1) to find out the process of the teaching of listening using audiobook application, 2) to know the students’ response to the teaching of listening using audiobook application. The research used a qualitative method involving observations, questionnaire and interviews as the data collection technique. The result of this research finds: 1) Students experienced problems in the listening process during class learning. 2) The problem when applying audiobook activities, students have a little difficulty in understanding a story in narrative text. 3) In the listening aspect, the researcher found a slight increase in students after learning to use audiobooks, students were more interested in learning especially when they heard a story that they were interested in. 4) The research found that the students mostly gave positive perceptions about learning listening through audiobooks. In conclusion, the findings show that most students give a positive response to learning literacy using audiobooks. In addition, there are several important points including media and learning equipment that every teacher must pay attention to in teaching listening. However, as a suggestion for the teacher, it is hoped to pay attention to the teaching materials and strategies that will be given to students.
