Abstract

ENGLISH: Flouting maxim is often found in speech act for different reasons. Television series 13 Reasons Why Season 1 shows flouting maxim which caused by depression symptom of its main character. This research is focused on type of flouting maxim, depression symptom in the flouting maxim, and interpreting the implicature with the aim to find out the relation between flouting maxim and depression symptom which are represented through the word choice of the main character. The research uses qualitative method in conducting this research and found 25 flouting maxim with depression symptom in it which are taken from Netflix’ Television series 13 Reasons Why Season 1. It uses document review as technique of collecting data. The data then is analyzed with some step of methods such as data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion and verification using the theory of cooperative principle by Grice (1975) and the language of depression by Al-mosaiwi (2018). The result shows that the main character uses four types of flouting maxim with flouting maxim of manner as the most dominant, the three depression symptoms are found in the flouting maxim with the use of first person pronoun and the use of negative word emotion as the most dominant, and all types of context are found in the implicature of the flouting maxim. The result indicate that the flouting maxim that the main character use has relation with the depression symptom within her. The way she communicates is effected by the depression that she suffers. INDONESIA: Flouting maxim sering kali ditemukan dalam sebuah tindak-tutur dengan berbagai alasan. Serial televisi 13 Reasons Why Session 1 menunjukkan flouting maxim yang disebabkan gejala depresi yang diderita tokoh utamanya. Penelitian ini difokuskan pada: jenis flouting maxim, gejala depresi dalam flouting maxim, dan menginterpretasikan implikatur dalam flouting maxim. Tujuannya adalah untuk menemukan hubungan antara flouting maxim dalam tindak-tutur tokoh utama serial televisi tersebut dengan gejala depresi yang tergambar melalui pilihan kata tokoh utamanya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode qualitatif, datanya berupa 25 tindak tutur flouting maxim yang mengandung gejala depresi, dan sumber datanya serial Televisi Netflix 13 Reasons Why Session 1. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan studi dokumentasi, sedangkan analisis data dilakukan dengan langakah-langkah reduksi data, penyajian data, dan pengambilan konklusi dan verifikasi data dengan menggunakan teori prinsip kerjasama dari Grice (1975) dan bahasa dalam orang depresi dari Al-mosaiwi (2018). Hasil penelitian berdasarkan analisis data ditemukan bahwa : tokoh utama menggunakan keempat tipe flouting maxim dalam percakapannya dengan flouting maxim manner yang paling dominan, ketiga gejala depresi ditemukan dalam tindak-tutur flouting maxim tokoh utama dengan penggunaan kata ganti orang pertama dan kata emosi negative paling dominan, semua jenis konteks ditemukan dalam implikatur flouting maximnya. Hasil dari penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa flouting maxim yang digunakan oleh tokoh utama dalam series ini memiliki hubungan dengan gejala depresi yang dialaminya. Caranya berkomunikasi dipengaruhi oleh gejala depresi yang dialaminya.
