Abstract

Loanword is a word directly taken into one language from another with little or no translation. Borrowing occurs when one language adds to its lexicon, a word or morphemes from another language, and it alters pronunciation of the word to fit the phonological rules of the borrowing language. Therefore, the writer is interested in conducting the research about the topic of loanword with the research questions: 1) What are the types of loanwords in U-prince movie series? 2) What changes in the loanwords in the U-prince movie series? This research uses qualitative method and the main theory used to analyze the data is from Haugen (1950: 212). Based on the data analysis, the findings show that the types of loanwords found are 1) Loanwords (transliteration) 2) Loan blended 3) Loan shift. Meanwhile, the change in loanwords is morphological and phonemic changes. From the findings of data analysis, the results of this research can be concluded that the types of loanwords that exist in the U-prince movie series are Loanword (transliteration), Blended Loans and Loan shift. This means that the most loanword found is the first direct English transliteration words. Meanwhile, the second one found is mixed between Thai and English called blended loan. Finally, the least one found is loan shift, which is diverted from the original sound and the spelling is similar to words’ that has already existed in other languages.
