Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the moral values was found in the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. In this case, the main purpose of the study is to find out what moral values are found in Charles Dickens's novel Oliver Twist, as well as how the authors convey the moral values in the novel. The study used a literary criticism analysis with a structural approach to researching research issues. To analyze the moral value of the author using the theory of Utile et Dulce from Horace and the moral value theory of Frank Palmer with the Oliver Twist novel as children literature. The method in this study was a method of literary criticism with the form of qualitative descriptive research. Through this method, the authors are able to find, explain, and represent the data taken in this study. The data on this research is derived from the research object of the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. This research illustrates the data analyzed using a classification of moral values. Writer took 23 data from the amount of data found. The writer take data as an example with purposive sampling. Furthermore, the data is classified and described points with relevant descriptions. The results of this study show that moral values are many forms and can be classified in as little as three parts, including moral value in the relationship between human and own self, in the relationship between human and the other, and the relationship between human and God. The author's way to convey moral value to readers can also be set to a minimum of two parts. There are, directly through the author's descriptions themselves or through character and characterization of figures. And the indirect way through the events and conflicts that exist in the story.
