Abstract

Naturally human need communication to get along society. Communication-related to social aspect that is involving addressee and situation. In daily life human usually use the form of addressee when communication. The purpose of the use the form of addressee is aimed to respect the participants. In pragmatics, the use of addressee forms includes to deixis discussion. This research aimed to find out the types and functions of social deixis in Zootopia animation. The problem of this research are formulated in two research questions: what types of social deixis are formed in the character’s utterance in Zootopia animation and What functions of social deixis expression in the character’s utterance in Zootopia animation. This research use Levinson’s theory of social deixis (1983), Nababan’s theory of the function of social deixis (1987) and other related theories. The method of this research is qualitative approach related to social deixis in Zootopia animation. The data are words and phrase that indicates as social deixis and taken from the utterance of the characters in Zootopia animation. The steps of data analysis include: data reduction (selecting, identifying, classifying, and coding), data display and conclusion. There are 41 data found as social deixis. The results of this research show there are two types of social deixis, they are relational and absolute. There are three types of relational form that found in the Zootopia animation that is 9 social deixis expressions includes to referent honorific, 10 social deixis expressions includes to addressee honorific, 3 social deixis expressions to bystander honorific, and does not found social deixis expressions of formality level. There are 19 absolute social deixis expressions found in Zootopia animation, it consists of 5 social deixis expressions includes authorize speaker and 14 social deixis expression includes authorize recipient. The second found is the function of social deixis in Zootopia animation. From 41 data was found four functions of social deixis, it consist of 19 data as politeness, 7 data as differentiator of social level, 9 data as clarify the closeness, and 6 data as social identity.
