Abstract

ENGLISH: From the title of this undergraduate thesis, it would be known that this undergraduate thesis discussed the representation of feminism through language feature in Brave movie (2012). The object for this research was Brave movie (2012). The representations of feminism in this movie analyzed through expressions and messages which are divided into two stages, verbal and nonverbal, and the relation among them. The researcher uses semiotics theory about E-R-C codes by Roland Barthes to analyze. The method uses in this research is audio visual documentation. The results of the representations of feminism found in Brave Movie include; 7 expressions of anger, 5 expressions of happiness, 3 expressions of sadness, 4 expressions of pressure, 3 expressions of exhausted, 4 expressions of excited, 3 expressions of shock, 2 expressions of curious, and 10 messages of representing feminism. This also indicate that Merida as a main character mostly expressed her anger as messages that she can do what men do and that she do not need a man beside her. Hence, it can be said as a feminist movie because Merida as a main character is not a weak princess who depends on a man beside her. In opposite, Merida looks independent and has faith about her life. This also can motivate women to be independent. INDONESIA:  Dari judul skripsi ini dapat diketahui bahwa skripsi ini membahas representasi feminisme melalui fitur kebahasaan dalam film Brave (2012). Objek penelitian ini adalah film Brave (2012). Representasi feminisme dalam film ini dianalisis melalui ekspresi dan pesan yang terbagi dalam dua tahap, verbal dan nonverbal, serta relasi antar keduanya. Peneliti menggunakan teori semiotika tentang kode E-R-C oleh Roland Barthes untuk menganalisisnya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dokumentasi audio visual. Hasil representasi feminisme yang ditemukan dalam film Brave antara lain; 7 ekspresi marah, 5 ekspresi bahagia, 3 ekspresi sedih, 4 ekspresi tertekan, 3 ekspresi kelelahan, 4 ekspresi gembira, 3 ekspresi terkejut, 2 ekspresi penasaran, dan 10 pesan representasi feminisme. Hal ini juga menunjukkan bahwa Merida sebagai tokoh utama kebanyakan mengungkapkan kemarahannya sebagai pesan bahwa dia dapat melakukan apa yang dilakukan pria dan bahwa dia tidak membutuhkan pria di sampingnya. Maka dari itu, film ini bisa dikatakan sebagai film feminis karena Merida sebagai pemeran utama bukanlah seorang putri lemah yang bergantung pada laki-laki di sampingnya. Sebaliknya, Merida terlihat mandiri dan memiliki keyakinan tentang hidupnya. Ini juga bisa memotivasi para perempuan untuk mandiri.
