Abstract

ENGLISH : Idioms are phrase or word group which have special meaning and that meaning has different meaning from individual word meaning. In this research the writer focuses on types of idiom, there are: Phrasal verb, prepositional verb, partial idiom, similes, binomials, denotative and connotative meaning.Denotative meaning tends to describe as the definitional, literal, obvious or commence meaning of sign. In other words, it can be said that denotative meaning is lexical meaning. It means that it has original meaning, source meaning or dictionary meaning. Connotative meanings are emotive meaning appear as the consequence of feeling of the native language to the word that is heard and read. Thus, the writer chooses the object that will be analyzed from the script movie "My Fair Lady" by Alan Jay Larner. The purposes of this research are to know the types of idiom (Phrasal verb prepositional verb, partial idiom, similes, binomials) and denotative and connotative meaning in the "My Fair Lady" movie by Alan Jay Larner. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method by analyzing document with the main theories from Palmer (1976), and McCarthy and O’Dell (2010:22-32), and denotative, connotative meaning by (Leech, 1974, 1981). From data analysis, the findings show that there are 72 types of idiom divide into the five types of idiom, phrasal verb (14 word), prepositional verb (10 word) type as the most found, partial idiom (40 word) Similes (4 word) and Binomial (4 word). INDONESIA : Idiom adalah ungkapan atau kelompok kata yang memiliki makna khusus dan makna tersebut memiliki makna yang berbeda dari setiap kata. Dari penelitian ini penulis fokus pada jenis idiom, yaitu:: Phrasal verb, prepositional verb, partial idiom, similes, binomials, makna denotasi dan maknan konotasi. Makna denotasi cenderung menggambarkan sebagai makna tanda, definisi literal, jelas makna tanda. Dengan kata lain, dapat dikatakan bahwa makna denotatif adalah makna leksikal. Ini berarti memiliki makna asli, makna sumber atau makna kamus. Makna konotasi adalah makna emotif yang muncul sebagai konsekuensi dari perasaan bahasa sumber terhadap kata yang didengar dan dibaca. Jadi penulis memilih objek yang akan dianalisis dari film skrip "My Fair Lady" oleh Alan Jay Larner. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis idiom (Phrasal verb prepositional verb, partial idiom, similes, binomials) dan makna denotasi dan konotasi dalam film "My Fair Lady" oleh Alan Jay. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan menganalisis dokumen dengan teori dari (Palmer, 1976), dan (McCarthy & M & O'Dell, 2009), dan denotasi, makna konotasi oleh (Leech, 1981). Dari analisis data, temuan menunjukkan bahwa ada 72 jenis idiom dibagi menjadi lima jenis idiom, phrasal verb (14 kata), prepositional (10 kata) jenis yang paling banyak ditemukan, partial idiom (40 kata) Similes (4 kata) dan Binomial (4 kata).
