Abstract

Each literary work has its own characteristics that are different from each other. In popular literature the characteristics are referred to as formulas. One formula is the romantic formula. The romance formula lies in the flow of the relationship between male characters (heroes) and female characters (heroine). In this research, the writer will analyze Crazy Rich Asian film, the film is directed by Jhon M. chu. The writer will divide the analysis part 1) What is the romance formula constructed in crazy rich Asian movie? 2) How do you conflict in crazy rich Asian build romance formula? This study uses the theory of Cawelti (1976) in analyzing the romance of formulas which is reinforced by Radway's (1991) theory. In this thesis analysis, the Structural analysis method research method is a method that is focused on the structure of a literary work itself. Thus, this method does not, definitely, concern the author's analysis and views, the reader response, the relevant of the real world; it does not also describe sign as the process of communication.
