Abstract

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is the most commonly consumed salad vegetable throughout the world. Lettuce is generally consumed fresh. Previous research has shown that the addition of NaCl into hydroponic nutrition at a certain concentration can significantly increase the fresh weight of lettuce plants. This research was aimed to see the effect of adding Na and Cl elements on the growth of lettuce plants. Na and Cl concentrations are used with a narrower tolerance interval in order to show more specifically which concentration is optimum for lettuce plant growth. The research was conducted from May to June 2020 in Pasanggrahan Village, Ujung Berung District, Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with one factor, namely the elements of Na and Cl (0 ppm and 0 ppm, 61 ppm and 100 ppm, 124 ppm and 200 ppm, 187 ppm and 300 ppm, 250 ppm and 450 ppm). There were five treatments with five replications, so there were 25 experimental units. The results showed that the addition of Na and Cl elements had a significant influence on the number of lettuce leaves aged 21 HST, namely in the treatment of n1 (0 ppm Na and 0 ppm Cl). Other parameters did not show the effect of adding Na and Cl elements on the growth of lettuce plants with a floating raft system. Overall, the addition of Na and Cl elements in this study did not have an effect on lettuce growth.
