Abstract
This study is entitled Moral Values in Charles Dickens Great Expectations Novel as Representation of Social Conditions of the 19th Century. Novels are media that can educate the public and improve the understanding of the material through reading. The novel is one of the media that has an important influence in providing information and as a means of conveying messages to readers or the wider community. This research is also formulated into two problems, namely: 1) What are moral values contained in Charles Dickens' Great Expectations novel? and 2) What is the relationship between moral values in Great Expectations novel and social conditions in the 19th century English? The main data source is the novel "Great Expectations", and the secondary data is the literature on moral books, and in particular the negative impact of the industrial revolution. The results of this research are moral values in the novel "Great Expectations", such as respect, responsibility, justice, tolerance, wisdom, helping each other, altruism, cooperation, courage, and confidence. This study aims to determine the similarity of moral values in the novel and the 19th century in England. This study also uses a qualitative approach to obtain subjective assessments through data sources, data collection techniques, data analysis techniques, time and place. Then the result of this research is to find the equation of Moral Value in the novel Great Expectation and social conditions in England in the 19th century such as capitalism, urbanization, crime, social class, and famine.
