Abstract

This undergraduate thesis "The Analysis of Speech Disfluencies on The Oral Presentation of English Literature Students 2016 State Islamic University " is a scientific study language behavior from a psycholinguistic point of view. In this thesis, the object of study being researched is the speaking fluency of students majoring in English literature when making presentations in the classroom which is uploaded to the YouTube account of each student. Speaking fluency often occurs when speaking spontaneously anytime and anywhere. The theory used for this research is the theory proposed by Fox-Tree (1995) and MacGregor (2008). This study focused on the types of speech ineffectiveness, namely silent pause, filled pause, repetition, false start, repair, and lexical filler. The purpose of this study is to determine the types of speaking fluency performed by students while presenting in the classroom and to find the causes of speaking fluency during class presentations. This thesis uses a qualitative research method from Suryana. The steps that were passed in this research were collecting data by watching the video presentation uploaded to the YouTube account, transcribing the data by understanding the utterances made by the student, identifying the incompetence of the student's speech, classifying the type of fluency in the speech and concluding analysis results. The results of this study find out that the speech disfluency that most speakers do is filled pause, silent pause and repetition.
