Abstract

Welfare is a life that is expected by all humans. To achieve it, there are several factors that influence to achieve prosperity. Economy is one of the main factors affecting welfare. The economic life that has been fulfilled is one way to achieve prosperity. However, sometimes welfare is not achieved when economic life is not fulfilled. This makes humans divided into two parts. The bourgeoisie, those who have been able to fulfill the economic needs and the proletariat whose economic needs have not been fulfilled. Or both can be said as the owners of capital and the working class. This makes the two parties interdependent on one another. But in this case, the working class feels more dependent on the ruling class. This is because their lives depend on the wages given by the ruling class. This has led to the detrimental actions to the working class, including oppression. The oppression of the working class by the ruling class. This case encourages the working class to fight for the rights and justice they should receive. Also the struggle to achieve the expected the life welfare. The research results show that in the Elysium film by Neill Blokamps and the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, both are represent the problems arising from the social inequality. There are differences in the economic level in community which provide the different of lifestyles which lead to the power from society as the ruling class who has the higher economic level. This makes the other one class have to get more struggle to stay alive well. The differences that exist in both objects are in the struggles form carried out by the working class. Based on the Marxism theory, the struggle of the working class in the Elysium film uses more effort and energy to fight against the ruling class. Meanwhile, in the novel The Hunger Games, the struggle of the working class is described with the effort and energy to win the competition that under the auspices the ruling class to increase their level and efforts towards a welfare.
