Abstract

ENGLISH: Translation is the communication of the meaning of a source language text by means of an equivalent target language text, including figurative language (metaphor). The writer is interested in analyzing about the strategy of the translation and type of the metaphor from the film entitled “R.I.P.D (Rest in Peace Department)”.The writer uses theory of translation by Newmark (1982) and (1988) to analyze two of the questions in this research about the translation strategy and the type of some of the metaphors.This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Data was taken from the movie subtitle in English and Bahasa. The result show that there are 37 data translated from the film. Based on Chesterman's (1997), the writer analyzed that the translator using semantic strategy on its work, including Synonymy (14 data), Hyponymy (6 data), Converse (2 data), Trope Change (1 data), Abstraction Change (1 data), Distribution Change (1 data), Emphasis Change (5 data), and Paraphrase Strategy (7 data). As for the type of metaphor, according to Newmark (1988), there are Dead Metaphor (15 data), Cliché Metaphor (3 data), Standard/Stock Metaphor (10 data), Adapted Metaphor (6 data), Recent Metaphor (1 data), and Original Metaphor (2 data). In conclusion, the use of translation procedures adopted by translator in rendering a text will significantly influence the quality of translation. INDONESIA: Translasi adalah komunikasi makna yang sepadan dari Bahasa Sumber (BSu) ke Bahasa Sasaran (BSa), termasuk bahasa figuratif (metafora). Penulis tertarik untuk meneliti tentang strategi translasi dan macam-macam metafora dari sebuah film berjudul “R.I.P.D (Rest in Peace Department)”.Penulis menggunakan teori translasi dari Newmark (1928) dan (1988) untuk meneliti dua pertanyaan dalam penelitian ini tentang strategi alih bahasa dan beberapa macam metafora yang tercantum. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data diambil dari subtitle film dalam bahasa Indonesia dan Inggris. Hasil menunjukkan ada 37 data terjemahan dari film. Bersumber dari Chesterman (1997), penulis telah menganalisa bahwa penerjemah menggunakan metode semantic dalam pengerjaannya, meliputi Synonymy (14 data), Hyponymy (6 data), Converse (2 data), Trope Change (1 data), Abstraction Change (1 data), Distribution Change (1 data), Emphasis Change (5 data), dan Paraphrase Strategy (7 data). Untuk macam-macam metafora, bersumber dari Newmark (1988), terdiri dari metafora mati (15 data), metafora klise (3 data), metafora standar (10 data), metafora saduran (6 data), metafora kontemporer (1 data), dan metafora orisinal (2 data). Kesimpulannya, prosedur alih bahasa yang digunakan oleh penerjemah yang terkonversi dalam bentuk teks subtitle akan mempengaruhi kualitas alih bahasa secara signifikan.
