Abstract

Baja karbon adalah jenis logam yang banyak digunakan dalam industri. Akan tetapi baja karbon memiliki kelemahan yaitu mudah mengalami korosi, salah satu cara pengendalian korosi adalah dengan penambahan inhibitor. Penggunaan inhibitor organik lebih diutamakan mengingat dampak negatif inhibitor anorganik. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan ekstrak daun kecombrang merah sebagai inhibitor organik, karena memiliki gugus fungsi –OH dan N yang dapat diadsorpsi oleh permukaan logam dan menghambat laju korosi. Penentuan laju korosi baja karbon dengan penambahan inhibitor ekstrak daun kecombrang merah ditentukan dengan menggunakan metode tafel dalam media larutan NaCl 1%. Hasil dari metode tafel berdasarkan variasi konsentrasi dan suhu menunjukkan bahwa laju korosi menurun dengan meningkatnya konsentrasi ekstrak daun kecombrang merah dan meningkat terhadap kenaikan suhu. Pada variasi konsentrasi, efisiensi inhibisi (%EI) optimum pada konsentrasi 24 ppm sebesar 36,7%, sedangkan pada variasi suhu optimum pada 25°C. Penentuan parameter aktivasi dilakukan untuk menentukan proses adsorpsi inhibitor yang meliputi nilai Ea, ΔH*, ΔS* dan ΔGads. Hasilnya Ea sebesar 0,1675 kJ/mol, ΔH* sebesar 13,86 kJ/mol, ΔS* sebesar -0,08171 kJ/mol dan ΔGads sebesar -0,4375 kJ/mol. Analisis permukaan baja karbon dengan menggunakan mikroskop elektron (SEM) menunjukkan permukaan baja karbon terlindungi lapisan tipis yang disebabkan adanya inhibitor ekstrak daun kecombrang merah. Abstrack POTENTIAL OF EXTRACT RED KECOMBRANG LEAF (Etlingera elatior (jack)) AS CARBON STEEL CORROSION INHIBITORS IN 1% NaCl SOLUTION Carbon steel is a type of metal that is widely used in industry. However, carbon steel has a weakness that is easy to experience corrosion, one way to control corrosion is by adding inhibitors. The use of organic inhibitors is preferred given the negative effects of inorganic inhibitors. In this research, red kecombrang leaf extract is used as an organic inhibitor, because it has a -OH and N functional groups that can be adsorbed by the metal surface and inhibit the rate of corrosion. Determination of carbon steel corrosion rate by the addition of red kecombrang leaf extract inhibitors was determined using the tafel method in 1% NaCl solution media. The results of the tafel method based on variations in concentration and temperature showed that the rate of corrosion decreased with increasing concentration of red kecombrang leaf extract and increased with temperature rise. In the variation of concentration, the optimum inhibition efficiency (% EI) at a concentration of 24 ppm was 36.7%, while at the optimum temperature variation at 25 ° C. The activation parameter determination is done to determine the adsorption inhibitor process which includes the values of Ea, ΔH*, ΔS* and ΔGads. The result is Ea of 0.1675 kJ / mol, ΔH* of 13.86 kJ / mol, ΔS* of -0.08171 kJ / mol and ΔGads of -0.4375 kJ / mol. Surface analysis of carbon steel using electron microscopy (SEM) shows the surface of carbon steel is protected by a thin layer caused by inhibitors of red kecombrang leaf extract.
