Abstract

INDONESIA : Sejatinya, sebuah foto jurnalistik merupakan suguhan informasi melalui sajian visual untuk melengkapi tulisan berita. Tak jarang sebuah foto juga dapat memengaruhi pemahaman bagi yang melihatnya, berangkat dari hal ini komunitas Photo’s Speak membuat sebuah pameran foto jurnalistik T(h)UMAN untuk memengaruhi persepsi pengunjung yang datang agar dapat teredukasi mengenai sampah plastik. Namun tak sedikit terjadi penyimpangan pemahaman isi dari pesan dalam foto yang ditampilkan. Dari masalah inilah yang melatarbelakangi penelitian untuk melakukan analisis semiotika terhadap tanda-tanda visual yang ada pada foto cerita dan foto tunggal di pameran T(h)UMAN, bertujuan untuk membuka pesan-pesan sosial selain isu sampah plastik dan pesan sosial lainnya. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rangkaian foto cerita dan foto tunggal memiliki pesan sosial setelah dianalisis dengan teori triangle of meaning konsep Charles Sanders Peirce. Pada tahap sign (tanda), penelitian menemukan tanda seperti warna-warna, makhluk hidup, benda-benda mati, dan kegiatan manusia. Lalu pada tahap object (objek), dalam foto cerita dan foto tunggal penelitian menemukan warna yang menyimbolkan sebuah rasa, aktivitas manusia, benda-benda yang digunakan sehari-hari, dan tempat untuk melakukan aktivitas. Setelah itu pada tahap terakhir, interpretant (interpretasi), penelitian menemukan pesan yang disimpulkan sebagai pesan sosial, antara lain: menjaga keberlangsungan hidup seluruh makhluk yang ada di bumi, memperhatikan dan menjaga lingkungan sekitar, tidak menggunakan barang dari plastik sekali pakai secara berlebihan, cermat dalam mengolah limbah plastik, tidak membuang limbah plastik sembarangan, menerapkan hidup sehat dan berolahraga secara teratur, memberikan pendidikan yang baik dan bermutu, menerima pendapat orang lain dan tidak berpikiran sempit, mencontohkan perilaku yang baik, tidak melupakan jasa pahlawan, tidak ada lagi ketimpangan antar gender. ENGLISH : Essentially, a journalistic photo is a visual form of information that contributes to complete the whole information within a news article. Interestingly, it is often to find a photo capable of giving influence as well towards people’s comprehension who perceived the photo indirectly. In this respect, the existence of Photo’s Speak community which has a mission to establish a journalistic photo’s exhibition known as T(h)UMAN is aimed to influence people’s or visitor's perception who can be educated about the crucial issue of environment especially issue of plastic trash through perceiving the photos displayed by the community. However, people also often show diverse perception and interpretation over the messages conveyed within the journalistic photo in the exhibition. By seeing this phenomenon, the writer is triggered to conduct a semiotic analysis concerning on unveiling visual signs presented within the story's photo and single photo in the exhibition of T(h)UMAN. Surely, the main objective of this research is to prevail social messages within the photos beside an issue of plastic trash. The result of analysis reveals that a series of story’s photos and single photo contained social values or messages by applying Charles Sanders Pierce’s theory of triangle of meaning. In this case, within the stage of sign, the writer acknowledges signs of colors, living things, passive objects, and human activities. Moreover, within the stage of objects, the writer discovers that colors found within the photos are symbolizing feelings, human activities, daily used objects, and places of human activities.The last stage of analysis called as interpretation stage reveals the grand social messages delivered within the photos which are; nurture the survival of all living creatures in the world, care of your surroundings, prevent to use or consume too much products made of disposable plastic, begin to recycle plastic waste properly, dispose trash in appropriate place, practice a new healthy lifestyle and keep up physical exercises orderly, providing proper education about environment, start to be more open minded, gives positive examples to others, keep remembering your national hero services, eliminate the existence of inequality among genders including providing equal opportunities to all people.
