Abstract

This study has the aim of improving the students’ speaking skill by using audio recorder. Particularly, this study was intended to seize the goal: 1) to find out the students’ speaking skill before using an audio recorder. 2) to find out the students’ speaking skill after using audio recorder, 3) to find out the students’ speaking skill before and after using an audio recorder. This study used a descriptive quantitative design, particularly a pre-experimental “one group pre-test and post-test design”. There are 20 participants of tenth-grade class MAN 1 Bekasi in academic year 2019/2020.The data were obtained by using pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was given to students before the treatment and the post-test was given after the treatment. The data of the pre-test and the post-test of students were analyzed by using statistictical formulation. In conclusion, the result of this study shows that in the pre-test, the students’ average score was 60.25 and the post-test, the students’ average score was 71.85. The level of significance is set equal or less 5%. The calculation of this research shows that t-value or t-test 2.093 is higher than t-table -7.333 with degree of freedom (df) of 19 (N-1). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is any improving students’ speaking skills by using audio recording. It means there was a progress of students’ achievement after taught by using audio recorder. We were able to improve the students’ speaking skill by using audio record because they became practical and easier to express what they are going to speak based on the material.
