Abstract

This research discusses about grammatical interference in Facebook communication. Facebook is one of social network which is used by many people in the world included Indonesian. It means that there are many language phenomena in Facebook communication such as interference. Therefore, the researcher is interested in analyzing grammatical interference in writing of Indonesian in the Facebook communication. Based on the background research, researcher focused to formulate into two research questions: 1) What types of grammatical interferences are found in the Facebook communication; 2) What factors cause grammatical interference in the Facebook communication. To find the answer for the questions, the researcher uses some theory of Weinreich that is relates to the study of interference. There are about types of grammatical interference and the factors that cause interference. Furthermore, this research uses qualitative method. In this qualitative research, it is used descriptive method which to analyze the data. The data are writings of Indonesian in Facebook communication. The researcher collects data by collecting method (Yin, 2011:147) the researcher also collect data by interview (Miler and Crabtree in Dornyei: 1999). Then, the data are analyzed based on the types of grammatical interference and the factors that cause of grammatical interference. In answering first question, the researcher uses theory of Weinreich (1953). According to Weinreich, types of grammatical interference are transfer of morpheme from source language to target language, interference relates to grammatical relations in particular word order, and interference relates to functions or meanings of grammatical forms. For the second question, researcher also uses theory of Weinreich about the factors cause interference such as bilingualism background, disloyalty to target language, needs of synonym, limited vocabularies, and pride and style. The result of this research shows that many found the data based on the types of grammatical interference, there are eighty-seven data of transfer of morpheme from source language to target language, two data of interference relates to grammatical relations in particular word order and fourteen data of interference relates to functions or meanings of grammatical forms. Then, there are many factors cause grammatical interference which is found in Facebook such as bilingualism background, disloyalty to target language, needs of synonym, limited vocabularies, and pride and style.
