Abstract

ENGLISH : CNN online newspaper is one of the digital news that provides the news in English. In understanding the content of English newspaper, the readers should understand some aspects. One of the aspects is collocation. There are two kinds of collocation: grammatical collocation and lexical collocation. Grammatical collocation is a kind of collocation that consists of noun, verb, adjective plus preposition or infinitive. Meanwhile, lexical collocation is a kind of collocation that consists of a noun, verb, adjective, and adverb. The research is aimed to analyze types of lexical collocation in US Political articles on CNN Online newspaper and the grades of lexical collocation found in US Political articles. The research uses the qualitative method. Meanwhile, the data are taken from the articles of US Political articles in CNN online newspaper which focuse on lexical collocation words. This research uses Benson and Ilson’s theory (1997) for analyzing the types of lexical collocation, while, in identifying the grades of lexical collocation, the researcher uses Lewis’s (2000) theory. Based on the data analysis, there are six types of lexical collocation namely, verb (denoting creation or activation) + noun (pronoun, prepositional phrase) (6), verb (meaning eradication or nullification) + noun (noun phrase) (4), adjective + noun (4), noun 1 + of + noun2 (12), adverb + adjective (6) and verb + adverb (11). From the data findings, it can be concluded that lexical collocation can occur in the text of a newspaper or any other source of text, because the combination of words in some texts always uses lexical collocation. INDONESIA : Berita online CNN merupakan salah satu berita digital yang menyajikan berita dalam bahasa Inggris. Dalam memahami isi surat kabar berbahasa Inggris, pembaca harus memahami beberapa aspek. Salah satu aspeknya adalah sanding kata. Ada dua jenis sanding kata: sanding kata gramatikal dan sanding kata leksikal. Sanding kata gramatikal adalah jenis sanding kata yang terdiri dari kata benda, kata kerja, kata sifat ditambah preposisi atau infinitive. Sedangkan sanding kata leksikal adalah jenis sanding kata yang terdiri dari kata benda, kata kerja, kata sifat, dan kata keterangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis sanding kata leksikal dalam artikel Politik AS pada surat kabar online CNN dan mengidentifikasi tingkat sanding kata leksikal yang ditemukan dalam artikel Politik AS. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Sedangkan data diambil dari artikel artikel Politik AS pada surat kabar online CNN yang berfokus pada kata-kata yang mengandung sanding kata leksikal. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Benson dan Ilson (1997) untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis sanding kata leksikal, sedangkan untuk mengidentifikasi tingkatan sanding kata leksikal, peneliti menggunakan teori Lewis (2000). Berdasarkan analisis data, ada enam jenis sanding kata leksikal yaitu, kata kerja (menunjukkan penciptaan atau pengaktifan) + kata benda (kata ganti, frasa preposisi) (6), kata kerja (arti pemberantasan atau pembatalan) + kata benda (frasa kata benda) (4) , kata sifat + kata benda (4), kata benda 1 + dari + kata benda2 (12), kata keterangan + kata sifat (6) dan kata kerja + kata keterangan (11). Dari temuan data dapat disimpulkan bahwa sanding kata leksikal dapat terjadi dalam teks surat kabar atau sumber teks lainnya, karena kombinasi kata dalam suatu teks selalu menggunakan sanding kata leksikal.
