Abstract

Along the development of globalization, countries have built relations with other countries in various aspects so the countries are connected in international cooperation. To solve the language diversity problem, people need translation as the bridge. The translator may face various difficulties in translation, especially translating literary work such as novel. Novel contains various sentence structures inside. Thus, the sentence structures have to be understood well by the translator, especially the complex sentence which has the complex structure. Due to the complexity, the researcher is interested in analying the translation strategy and measure the translation quality of the complex sentence. The data choosen is a novel entitled “Juliet” written by Anne Fortier and its translation. The researcher provided two research questions: (1) What are the strategies used by the translator in translating the complex sentence into Indonesian in the novel “Juliet”? (2) How is the translation quality measured in translating english complex sentence into Indonesian in the novel ”Juliet”?. The method used to analyze the data is qualitative method. The total of data were 52 which analyzed through Chesterman’s translation strategy (2016) and Nababan’s translation quality (2012). The first finding showed that there are ten strategies used to translate the complex sentences in this novel, they are; snynonymy, information change, explicitness change, distribution change, clause structure change, transposition, antonymy, sentence structure change, phrase structure change, and visibility change. The second finding showed that the score of accuracy is 2,7, the score of acceptability is 2,9 and the score of readability is 2,9. Based on the score, the translation is accurate, acceptable and readable. ABSTRAK Azzahra, Nur Shofa. 2020. Seiring berkembangnya globalisasi, negara-negara di dunia menjalin hubungan kerjasama dalam berbagai bidang. Untuk mengatasi keberagaman bahasa, manusia membutuhkan penerjemahan. Penerjemah menghadapi banyak kesulitan dalam menerjemahkan sebuah karya, terutama karya sastra seperti novel. Novel terdiri dari berbagai macam struktur kalimat. Karenanya, penerjemah harus menguasai struktur kalimat yang bermacam-macam, terutama kalimat kompleks yang sesuai namanya, memiliki struktur yang kompleks. Karena kompleksitasnya, penerjemah tertarik untuk menganalisis strategi penerjemahan dan mengukur kualitas penerjemahan dalam kalimat kompleks tersebut. Data yang dianalisis adalah sebuah novel berjudul “Juliet” yang ditulis oleh Anne Fortier beserta terjemahannya dalam bahasa Indonesia. Penulis mengusung dua dua rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini; (1) Apa saja strategi penerjemahan yang digunakan penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan kalimat-kalimat kompleks dalam novel Juliet ke dalam bahasa Indonesia? (2) Bagaimana kualitas penerjemahan kalimat-kalimat kompleks dalam novel Juliet tersebut dalam bahasa Indonesia?. Metode yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Jumlah seluruh data adalah 52 data yang dianalisis menggunakan teori strategi penerjemahan Chesterman (2016) dan teori kualitas penerjemahan Nababan (2012). Penemuan pertama menunjukan bahwa ada 10 strategi yang digunakan penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan kalimat-kalimat kompleks dalam novel ini, yaitu snynonymy, information change, explicitness change, distribution change, clause structure change, transposition, antonymy, sentence structure change, phrase structure change, dan visibility change. Hasil analisis kedua menunjukan bahwa keakuratan penerjemahan ini memiliki skor 2,7 sedangkan keberterimaan dan keterbacaan memiliki skor 2,9. Skor tersebut menandakan bahwa penerjemahan ini akurat, berterima dan mudah dipahami.
