Abstract

In learning English, vocabulary mastery is one of the important elements in mastering English as foreign language. The students will face many problems in learning English if they do not have sufficient vocabulary. Their insufficiency of vocabulary can be overcome by using RoundRobin. RoundRobin is one of techniques to facilitate the students to learn vocabulary. This research aimed at (1) finding out students’ vocabulary mastery by using RoundRobin; (2) finding out students’ vocabulary mastery without using RoundRobin; and (3) finding out the significance of the difference between students’ vocabulary mastery by and without using RoundRobin. The research was a quantitative research and used an experimental method. Pre- test and post-test were given in experimental and control classes to measure the students’ ability in learning vocabulary. In experimental class, the students received treatments by using RoundRobin as technique in teaching activities; meanwhile, the students in control class studied the same materials like experimental class did but by using the conventional method. The result of the data analysis shows the differences of the students’ result in learning vocabulary both of the classes. It could be seen in the result of the mean in pre-test for experimental class that is about 62.57 and after they got the treatments, the result of post-test increased to 78.03. It is different with the control class, the mean is 54.12 and after teaching learning activity conducted the score increased to 57.32. It means there is the influence of RoundRobin technique on teaching vocabulary. Then, testing hypothesis shows that tcount is 26.55 while that ttable is 2.00. It means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted because tcount is higher than ttable. This research can be concluded that there is a significant influence between using RoundRobin and without using RoundRobin technique. RoundRobin technique, one of techniques, could influence the students’ vocabulary. Hence, RoundRobin technique can be used to improve students’ vocabulary.
