Abstract

Stereotype is closely tied and cannot be separated in daily life. A stereotype is a generalization about an entire class of phenomena based on some knowledge of some members of the class (Wood, 2009:123). As a part of social group, the stereotype cannot be separated from women. Women stereotype is an assesment given to women that is constructed by society. This research focuses on finding the representation of women stereotypes and women’s rejection toward the stereotypes in Little Women (2019) movie using feminist theory by Simone de Beauvoir. Feminism as an awareness of the oppression and exploitation of women in society, the workplace, and the family, as well as conscious actions by women to change that awareness. This research used structuralist approach in analysing the research as the researcher adopts structuralist activity. The results of the research based on Beauvoir’s theory show that Little Women (2019) movie is represented women stereotypes in several ways such as women should marry rich men to make their ways, women should not get proper education because in the end, they only work for domestic sphere. Besides that, this movie also represented that the women are not only stay silence when they trapped in the stereotypes. The women do reject those stereotypes in several ways, such as writing a work in woman’s point of view, build a school for girls and boys for equal education, and choose their own decision as woman without limiting by stereotypes.
