Abstract

This reearch is related with analyzing language from clauses which are uttered by main character in Malcolm X movie Script. Ideational meaning or transitivity is one of types of meaning. It is realized by participant, process, and circumstances. This research focuses on Circumstances, then formulated into two research questions: 1) What circumstances are uttered by the main character in Malcolim x movie script? 2) What processes are explained by the dominant circumstances uttered by main character in Malcolm X movie script?. The source of data of this research is collected from a transcripted movie, entitle Malcolm X. Since the object of research is a transcript of the movie. So qualitatve method is the method chosen for this research. The result of the research shows that there are 228 clauses which contains circumstance types. From the clauses, the researcher found 9 types of circumstance which is dominated by circumstantial of location with 112 total clauses. Then, from the clauses which contain circumstantial of location, the researcher found 6 types of process which is dominated by material process with 60 clauses. Penelitian ini berkaitan dengan analisis bahasa dari klausa-klausa yang di ucapkan oleh karakter utama dalam skrip film Malcolm X. Ideational meaning atau transitivity merupakan salah satu jenis makna. Itu di ungkapkan oleh participant, process, dan circumstance. Penelitian ini berfokus pada circumstance, kemudian di rumuskan menjadi dua penelitian: 1) Circumstance apa saja yang di ucapkan oleh karakter utama dalam skrip film Malcolm X? 2) Process apa saja yang di jelaskan oleh dominant circumstances yang di ucapkan oleh karakter utama dalam skrip film Malcolm X?. Sumber data yang penelitian ini dikumpulkan dari film yang ditranskripkan, berjudul Malcolm X. Karena objek kajian dalam penelitian ini merupakan transkrip film, maka metode kualitatif digunakan untuk penelitan ini. Hasil dari penelitan ini menunjukan bahwa terdapat 228 klausa yang mengandung circumstances, dari klausa-klausa tersebut, ada 9 tipe circumstances, yang di dominasi oleh circumstance of location dengan total 112 klausa. Kemudian, dari klausa-klausa circumstance of location, peneliti menemukan 6 tipe process yang didominasi oleh material process dengan total 60 klausa.
