Abstract

Depression is a state in which someone is sad, down, grumpy, or irritable for an extended period of time and interferes with normal life. A depressed person interferes with daily life and normal life functions. It can cause pain in both the person experiencing it and the person who paid attention to them. This study focuses on two issues. First, what linguistic and non – linguistic expressions are associated with the depression of the main character in The King’s Speech film. Second, what is the content of linguistic and non – linguistic expressions related to depression in the main character of The King’s Speech, as well as the relationship between linguistic and non – linguistic expressions is related to depression sign of the main character in The King Speech film using semiotics analysis theory by Charles Sander Peirce. This study analyses the film The King’s Speech by David Seidler. First to identify the linguistic and non – linguistic expressions associated with depression in the main character of The King’s Speech film. Second, using the triadic theory from Charles Sanders Peirce, determine the content of linguistic and non – linguistic expressions related to depression in the main character in The King’s Speech film. To discover and respond to the above problems, this study employs the semiotics theory of Charles Sanders Peirce, which is related to the triadic theory. This research method employs qualitative research, and the data is descriptive in both written and oral form, pertaining to the research object. As a result, there were 22 data points concerning depression expressions. There is content about linguistic and non – linguistic expression of the depression sign shown by the main cast in the film, which is examined using Charles Sanders Peirce’s theory. Causality has been discovered between linguistic and non – linguistic expressions.
