Abstract
Listening plays a vital role in the overall time spent in communicating and academic success. Unfortunately, in Indonesia, English teaching appears to place less emphasis on listening activities, with the majority of English textbooks employing a paper-based design that lacks audio aids. This study uses a qualitative method, especially a narrative inquiry design involving a participant experienced in teaching listening through Dialogue. In this study, the selected participant is an English teacher who teaches English through Dialogue in the twelfth grade of senior high school. In the data collection process, the researcher conducts one-on-one interview with the intended participant and asks for photos of activities carried out with students. This study shows that, first, Dialogue is an effective technique. Moreover, the teacher also was helped by the E-Book Reader application in improving students listening skills. Second, the challenges she got in teaching using a dialogue technique are related to the content of the listening text and learners. The challenge related to the content of the listening text is when the native speaker’s voice is very fluent but she did not have any script of it. While, the challenges related to the listeners are when students ask the teacher to pause or replay the audio although it played for three times and when the teacher found that the students know the vocabulary but do not know how to pronounce it correctly that makes the students feel strange when the native speakers pronounce some vocabularies.
