Abstract

The research investigates about the role of woman’s character in the mission of destroying vampire. The object taken for this research is Dracula novel by Bram Stoker. This novel presents the mission of destroying vampire. There are two women characters, namely Mina Murray and Lucy Westenra. They have their own role in this mission. Both of them are categorized into feminists. The researcher adresses two problems: 1) How is the description of two women characters in Bram Stoker’s Dracula? 2) How is the role of two women characters in the mission of destroying Vampire in Bram Stoker’s Dracula? In order to get full understanding of the object taken, the researcher also has choosen feminism theory as theoretical standpoint. The researcher uses qualitative descriptive as the method of research. This is to elaborate the significance of women’s character to the mission which appears through the novel. In the process of collecting data, the researcher uses library study. The data are analyzed by identifying, categorizing, interpreting and concluding the data. The result of this research shows that the role of two women characters gives the influence to the mission significantly, especially Mina’s character. Her character is more dominant than Lucy’s character. Furthermore, the researcher finds that the novel represents the two women characters who are categorized into feminist. She is a woman who gets an equality from any form. In the novel, it is very clearly described that Mina is a brave woman who has the feminist spirit inside. While Lucy in this novel, described as woman who becomes the victim of Vampire then she is the reason the mission of destroying vampire begins. The role of Lucy’s character reveals the existence of vampire. In conclussion Mina’s character has the important role in the mission. Mina gives the brilliant ideas during running the plans. With her intelligence the mission can be carried out smoothly and finally successful. Count Dracula is destroyed and the mission ends.
