Abstract

The study aims to examine the relationship between students’ English vocabulary mastery and their listening comprehension as represented at TOEFA score. The research used a quantitative research approach with correlational design. Test and document analysis were used as the instrument to collect the data. Vocabulary Levels Test (VLT) was utilized to collect the data of students’ English vocabulary mastery. Then, the TOEFA score was analyzed to collect the data of students’ listening comprehension. The participants of this research were 50 students of English Education Department of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, which was selected by convenience sampling. The analysis of data collected was presented by Pearson’s correlation product-moment using SPSS 26. The result shows that the Pearson’s correlation value of both variables is 0.566 with the sig. value 0.000. The sig. value is less than sig. table 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05) and the correlation value (rcount) is more than the rtable N50 with α = 5% = 0.279 (0.566 > 0.279). It means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted, and the null hypothesis is automatically rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between students’ English vocabulary mastery (X) and their listening comprehension (Y), and the correlation is categorized as moderate correlation since the correlation value is in the range of 0.40-0.59.
