Abstract
Sociolinguistics is a language learning that discusses the scope of social life, which has various variations language, there is code mixing. Code-mixing is inevitable phenomenon in bilingual society to communicate in any setting including in MasterChef Indonesian program. Therefore, code mixing in English-Indonesian on MCI program is the main focus of this research with research questions: (1) What are the factors that cause code mixing between the judges and participants of the MCI program? (2) How are the public perceptions about code mixing in the MCI program? The answer these questions, the researcher uses several theories, the theory of Hymes to answer the first question about the factors of code mixing and the theory of Bell to answer the last question is about people's perception of code mixing. To limit the object, the researcher took 15 respondents as data. This study also uses descriptive methods and qualitative approaches. The data has been collected by being identified, recorded, and written down in a paper. The data set is then analyzed, interpreted, and concluded. Based on the data analysis, the results show that there are three factors that cause code mixing: situational factor (3 data), conditional factor (6 data), and event factor (6 data). Meanwhile, public perceptions of code mixing in the MCI program from 15 participants involved after being interviewed show that the for mentioned code mixing has positive and negative impact. The positive impact is that they can enrich and enhance understanding concerning English vocabularies in general. While for the negative one, they do not understand most English words used in the code mixing.
