Abstract

ABSTRACT Fadila Annisa Azzahra. 1175030093. Expressive Speech Act in Prince Ea’s Motivational Words. An Undergraduate Thesis, English Literature, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, State Islamic University of Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Supervisors: 1. Dr. Pepi Siti Paturrohmah, S.S., Mpd. 2. Ika Yatmikasari S.S., M.Pd. The speech act has become a linguistic rule that needs attention. Which discusses several linguistic ethics, one of which is the expressive speech act. In communicating, of course, the speaker has a goal so that his utterance can be well received by the listeners. The object of this research is a motivational speech by one of the famous inspirational YouTubers from Africa, namely Prince Ea. The purpose of this research is to describe: (1) types of expressive speech act in motivational spoken words by Prince Ea. (2) the function of expressive speech act in motivational spoken words by Prince Ea. This research is based on Creswell's theory, the technique of collecting data includes setting the boundaries of the study, gathering information through unstructured or semi-structured observations and interviews, documents, and visual materials, and establishing a protocol for recording information. The method used in collecting data in this study is the method of taking video scripts from YouTube. This method is done by taking a YouTube video script and analyzing each utterance related to the type of expressive speech act. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the description method. This method is done by taking sentences from the speaker related to the type of expressive speech act and describing the meaning of the utterance so that its meaning and purpose are known. In the end, the researcher concluded that in language it is important to pay attention to aspects of speech act, especially expressive speech act so that the intent of the speaker's utterance is conveyed well by the listener.
